Material Ablation Conduction Erosion Prg.(MACE)

Software and Engineering Associates

The Material Ablation Conduction Erosion Program (MACE) solves the 1-Dheat conduction equation, including mechanisms that control internaldecomposition. The surface boundary may be determined by simpleconduction, constant temperature sublimation, a Munson-Spindler typerelationship, a C-3 carbon-oxygen reaction, or generalized chemistryboundary condition. In addition to the above boundary conditions, thesurface material may be removed by mechanical erosion (e.g., dust, rain, ice, shear stress).Up to 10 materials may be considered with heat capacities, contactresistances, and radiation gaps at each interface. Convective heattransfer and boundary layer properties may be input directly or inputthrough a file linkage with an aeroheating program. Heating rates may bemodified by angle-of-attack, surface roughness, nonisothermal wall, orprotuberance heating. The output is written on a file which maysubsequently be used as input to a plot program, thermal stress program,or a vehicle mass loss and drag program.
